Hey everyone,

One of the features we are currently developing on the website is for elections. So here is our page on the 2012 GOP Presidential primaries.

You will notice we list all the upcoming primaries by date and from there you can see the number of posts for each primary or caucus as well as lists of candidates and more.

You will also notice we have a forum dedicated to the GOP presidential primaries you can see here:

http://www.democratichub.com/forums/4/all-u-s-elections.aspx?elid=9

Feel free to create a new thread or respond to this one. We'll have discussions and updates for all upcoming primaries and elections.

I'll make two observations about the Iowa Caucus.

First the results are non-binding. From the Denver Post: "Instead, the caucus results serve as a guide for the state's Republicans as they hold local and state conventions during the coming year to elect their convention delegates. They can (and do) use the caucus as a guide, but they are not bound to do so."

Secondly, although Mitt Romney "won" it is interesting to note that money doesn't buy as many votes as one might think. Bloomberg News reports that Romney and his supporters spent an estimated $2.3 million on TV advertising in Iowa, which comes down to $75.44 for each of the 30,015 votes he garnered. Santorum’s backers spent $303,570 for TV ads on his behalf, or $10.12 for each of his 30,007 votes.

Oh and despite all the money Romney spent, he only got eight more votes than in the 2008 Iowa Caucus. That suggests he hadn't improved much in the eyes of the Iowa Caucus goers in the four years since the last election.
