According to a study by MIT's Political Economy Research Institute, "funding domestic priorities like clean energy, health care, and education creates about twice as many jobs per dollar spent, at all pay levels, as military spending."

Spending $1.0 billion on education, for example, creates 26,700 jobs compared to only 11,200 jobs for the same amount of military spending.

Likewise, investment of $1.0 billion in clean energy creates 16,800 jobs versus the 11,200 for the military investment.

I would have thought these points would be intuitive...no brainers, because the effects of education have generational lasting power, whereas military spending needs the destructive power of endless war to last.

The counter argument to that would that military spending protects America from those who wish to destroy it and helps spread Democracy throughout the world.

I do agree there is massive wasteful spending in military contracts though. I have heard insane stories about contractors just throwing out perfectly good cars because they have a flat tire and have the government just buy them a new. And from what I understand it's not an uncommon occurrence. I also agree that all that wasteful spending would be put to better use in the education and energy sectors.
