“I did not think I had lived a good enough life to be rewarded by Newt Gingrich being the Republican nominee. It still is unlikely, but I have hopes”
--
Barney Frank
answering a question at his press conference.
So why is Barney Frank happy with Newt's rise in the polls, and what does Barney Frank know about him that his supporters and media pundits don't seem to yet know?
Could it be because back in 1997, the House Ethics Committee charged Gingrich with 84 ethics violations,
reprimanded him and fined him "$300,000
in additional sanctions after concluding that his use of tax-deductible money for political purposes and inaccurate information supplied to investigators represented "intentional or . . . reckless" disregard of House rules."
Details of that investigation
are there for the pickings.
Could it be because
Gingrich was forced to resign
from both the Speakership and the House in "disgrace way back in 1998, after his fellow Republicans decided they no longer had use for his kind of “leadership.?”"
Gingrich's parting words
for his colleagues in Congress sounded rather defiant:
"I'm willing to lead but I'm not willing to preside over people who are cannibals..."
Could it be that in the 13 years since he resigned, he has used his connections to fuel "a for-profit collection of enterprises that generated close to $100 million in revenue over the past decade?"...activities which the
Washington Monthly
upon examination concludes "how sketchy — and at times, even sleazy — Gingrich’s operation has been." What details are yet to be revealed of these sketchy and sleazy operations in the coming months? Arizona has provided a link to a
New York Times article
about Gingrich's profitable "lobbying activities."
Could it be because details of his three marriages and infidelities are largely not yet known, but will certainly raise the eyebrows of the family values part of the Republican Party when the victims start talking publicly...a lesson from Herman Cain not yet learned?
There is much more...these are the tip of the iceberg. However, Barney Frank and Democrats should not gloat too much.
Newt Gingrich has repented.
“I found that I felt compelled to seek God’s forgiveness. Not God’s understanding, but God’s forgiveness. I do believe in a forgiving God. And I think most people, deep down in their hearts hope there’s a forgiving God.”
So do the Democrats dare bring up his sins when Gingrich implies they have been forgiven by his God? Do we dare question God's judgment?
