Florida Senator Marco Rubio has built his political platform on the idea that he is charismatic and "the son of exiles" that fled the "thug" Fidel Castro and left Cuba to come to the land of opportunity that is America.
This story has a lot of resonance in the state of Florida. It has worked very well for him. The problem lies in the fact that it's not exactly true. Fidel Castro's thuggery started in 1959. And, a reporter from the Washington Post uncovered the fact that Rubio's parents left Cuba two and a half years prior, in 1956.
So, it's either an honest mistake or a political plow. Either way, he claims that this error his basically semantics and that he did not mean to embellish. He claims that his identity is still centered around his original ideals and that won't change.
What are your thoughts? Is his whole campaign a joke now or is this possibly an honest mistake?
