I will never forget my High School gym teachers. Ms. Timmany and Mrs. Gallo. Mrs. Gallo performed the physical activity for every class even though it was painful as she was required to by the school. I went to Catholic school. How can you even think their work is not worthy of full pay or that children don't need it. Gym is an outlet for many students, whose parents don't indulge in physical activity with them at all nor let them go outside to play because of the dangers that linger. DO NOT TAKE AWAY GYM CLASS. In some instances, it can save a life! Perhaps Governor Christie has never had issues so he doesn't understand how USEFUL GYM CLASS IS AND HOW VALUABLE THOSE TEACHERS ARE!!! They are not just phys ed teachers, they are counselors too! They motivate us to push forward and to challenge ourselves!! Don't knock the Governor, just let him know why it's important to keep.
My FB post was featured on PIX11 and I wanted to share it with the Governor. Sir, I think you should reconsider the purpose Physical Education classes serves. It's not just about exercise, it is also about competition, pushing yourself beyond your limits to achieve goals. It is absolutely necessary, please look for something else to cut to save our good teachers. I think you were on the right track with tenure, but make sure that people are not getting ahead because of who they know and hobknob with. Everything gets corrupted when we break from tradition that was set in place for a purpose. Perhaps, if it is legal, you can add a limit to the tenure, in other words, resign when you just cannot perform as needed, instead of being there until you physically fall apart for the sake of collecting a salary.
Good luck, I think you are doing a great job.
Sincerely,
Eileen N.
