South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley spoke out against people applying for unemployment in her state. She said, "I so want drug testing. I so want it," claiming that half the applicants in her state failed the drug test and the other half were barely able to read and write.

First off, 50% is a wildly exaggerated number. When someone actually looked it up, the number was around 2%. And, her comment was misleading in another way as well. People applying for unemployment don't even get considered for not receiving aid unless they have failed a drug test when qualifying for a job. So, while she has a point that unemployment, which is at 10.9% in her state, is a serious problem, she is seriously slamming and misrepresenting that mass of people greatly.

Despite Haley's want and need to drug test, I would really like to know everyone's opinion on this matter. Do you think it's fair to drug test anyone applying for unemployment? Is it constitutional? What do you think?

Yes, anyone applying for Government aid should have to be tested.

That would be a huge needless waste of money to drug test everyone applying. Drug testing 2 million people to weed out 40,000 is not cost efficient.

Okay with the drug test, I can go with that.  The problem I have is stopping people who has been working for years wthout a high school diploma or even knowing how to even read, write or do simple math for years.  Now they want to used that to stop people benefits.  Most jobs don't require you to read american language.  If so then why do we have a lot of none speaking americans working in our local jobs here today.  Some can't even read, just like the ones that dropped out of high school.  If you stop the average american speaking drop out.  Then don't forget the ones who can't speak english or read english and write english at all.  Better yet, firer them too.  Why are they working.  I know they don't have an american high school diploma or GED.  Heck how if they can't read it. That is why they have changed the way people get hired, they are adding need high school diploma.  So they know 35% of americans don't have a high school diploma so they can't get a job.  But last year they didn't have a problem when they was on the assembly line sending out their packages.  They want us see they have all the answers.  They don't, they just want to be funny.  No matter what, if the people have been working for a company for years without that so called high school diploma, and they got laid off for no reason at all.  They owe them unemployment check, end of subject.

I totally agree in drug testing if you get unemployment benefits.  If you have money for drugs..you have money to eat and pay rent.  Sorry....Liberals like myself should stand up for drug addicts.  I chose not to do drugs as I knew it was a bad idea. I knew hardship...didn't go to drugs....

Really why does people unemployed need to be tested?   i think what we inject in our body by choice really makes u a free person..and how does that prove the aid u asking for really isnt take care of  the things that u need it for....i think it is oversteppn.

Actually i think its a terrible idea, for one her comments are misleading and for 2 it doesnt solve the problem and the problem is unemployment, not drug use, and im not gonna  sugarcoat this either its aimed at a certain group of people thats already hurting and this could put their back against the wall to now its survive or die which leads to crime, and eventhough they may use some type of drug, doesnt mean that they are not searching for employment...and still could use those benifits that basically only cover food and help with rent.
