A quick question, are any of you familiar with Naomi Klein and her book "the Shock Doctrine" ?

Just ed...welcome to the website.  It's community driven by people like yourself.  You asked about Naomi Klein's book, the Shock Doctrine.  Yes I have read it and I'm a fan of hers, not only for what she brought out in that book but also her many essays on a variety of topics. The Shock Doctrine premise, is of course being played out all over the world, in the past, present and in the future.  It's really a convenient basis, sometimes manufactured, for the rich and powerful to exploit the poor and middle class.

Other journalists have adopted the term "shock doctrine" in their articles.  Indeed, AlterNet features an article today by Robert Borasage entitlled, Shock Doctrine: How Conservatives and Corporate Elites Are Stoking Economic Hysteria To Force Catastrophic Cuts. Again fear and panic are the buzz words for enabling an effective Shock Doctrine. Critial thinking takes a back burner.

Naomi Klein has several good essays on the Nation website, that cover controversial topics that are often not covered by the mainstream media...the Israel-Palestine conflict, for example.

I will be happy to engage you on a discussion of any of the Naomi Klein's Shock Doctrine topics, but if you are a fan of hers than you'll be preaching to the choir.

I am new to this too. Rather than replying to anything in particular, I asking for some help. I would like to locate the sources for two quotes that I want to invoke in discussion and possibly letters to Congressmen.

The first was by Lloyd Blankfein (Goldman CEO) to the effect: It is not the bank's responsibility to look out for the public good.

The second was by Mitch McConnell when he was discussing the fact that the Republicans lost in 1996 even though they won big in 1994. He said something like: Our mistake after 1994 was concentrating too much on policy and not enough on destroying the president.

This was a clear reference to what the intentions are this time around and I can think few things more more anti-American. Can such a statement come from one sworn to uphold the Constitution? That document says check and balance, it doesn't say destroy.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

I am replying to myself to assure everyone that NM is not in TX; I neglected to choose the proper region the first time around and have updated my profile.
