Newly elected Tea Party Senator Mike Lee told CNN's Wolf Blitzer that he plans to filibuster today's vote on the bi-partisan debt ceiling bill.  It requires 60 votes to break the filibuster, but it also delays votes.

So just who is Mike Lee.? He is notorious for beating out Utah's senior senator, Bob Bennett, in the 2010 Republican primary. Bennett served as Utah's senator since 1992.

But Lee is also one of the 70 Senators and Representatives that signed the Contract From America, which, among several issues, demands a balanced budget amendment, including a clause that states that a 2/3 Senate majority is needed for any tax hike.

It seems Mike Lee is trying to make a name for himself.

Just to clarify, according to the Salt Lake Tribune,

"Lee will insist that at least 60 senators support the final plan. Sixty votes is the threshold to stop a filibuster and proceed to a final vote, which takes only 51 votes to pass legislation. But he won’t use the power every senator has to demand a 30-hour debate under Senate rules, which would delay a vote until after the Aug. 2 deadline set by Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner."
