Tom Coburn's proposal to cut $9 trillion from the deficit, over the next 10 years, is interesting. He goes against most of his own party, including the tax-hating Americans For Tax Reform organization, by proposing to cut $1 trillion in tax breaks.
But, it's not a Democrat friendly proposal either. Social Security and Medicaid, along with many other government aid programs would take a considerable hit in funding, resulting in higher premiums and increasingly older ages for qualification (just to name a few changes).
A good article that covers his proposal:
Coburn proposes $9 trillion deficit cut measure
All that being said, it does seem to be a coherent and successful way to cut $9 TRILLION dollars in debt, granted over 10 years, but still 9 TRILLION DOLLARS! That's a very encouraging number to me. What does everyone else think? Is he on to something? Can we at least use this as a starting point for the final proposal??
