Robert Parry's June 28, 2011 article,
How Greed Destroys America
, hits on several topics that have been addressed on this website in other forum posts. I'll hit on a few highlights:
Parry calls our faith in “free-market economics” a kind of
secular religion
that has driven our government policies since Ronald Reagan. In cutting income tax rates to historically low levels, the "U.S. government essentially incentivized greed or what Ayn Rand liked to call “the virtue of selfishness.”"
Quoting Parry: "By posing as populists hostile to “government social engineering,” the Right succeeded in duping large numbers of middle-class Americans into seeing their own interests – and their “freedom” – as in line with corporate titans who also decried federal regulations, including those meant to protect average citizens, like requiring seat belts in cars and discouraging cigarette smoking."
In Ronald Reagan’s assault on the middle class...union busting, exporting of millions of jobs overseas, and the transfer of enormous wealth to the already rich through favorable tax cuts...."Greed was incentivized."
Read Parry's excellent article at the above link...and as he further elaborates on what America has become..."a land for billionaires."

How come the Democrats don't talk about the fact that the Republicans are dead-set to save the health insurance companies who's profits are the reason that our health care is twice as expensive as in any other industrial nation. And that is their only motive at the expense of the vast majority of Americans. The Medicare Advantage plans (Health Insurance Companies) Get almost $1000 per month from medicare to insure their subscribers, A very foxy Bush administration way of sending taxpayer's money to the Insurance Companies. We need national medicine, it will cost taxpayers less, and it save lives.
How come the Democrats don't call the present recession the Bush Recession and that it would have been the Bush Depression if the new administration in Washington didn't add some stimulus to the economy, which has to cost money.
How come the Democrats don't point out that a tax cut to millionaires only makes them richer and that mponey given to the down-trodden gets spent on necessities which creates demand for products and services wehich would result in companies hiring to meet this demand. Millionaires haven't deprived themselves of anything and any tax cut just goes into the bank, not increasing demand for product and services.
How come the Democrats don't point out that corporations are flushed with cash and decreasing taxes of the CEO's doesn't cause them to hire, demand for their product does.

I have started a petition at http://www.petitiononline.com/mod_perl/signed.cgi?GOProle
The gist is that justice has been forgotten in the debt ceiling debate and that the GOP particularly needs to move off the dime (pun). If not, no one needs to vote for them at any level, because no level has controlled the GOP national leadership. Although the site asks for email, it remains private. I have asked that signers be registered voters; they may optionally describe themselves, e.g. grandmother, veteran, nurse. Also started a facebook group called AmericansMovingtheDebtDebate. Please join us. Already interesting material from Galbraith, history of debt under various presidents, etc. Appreciate your site.

We just changed to a more responsive site.
Have you signed yet? I am appalled by the behavior of our congresspersons. They are like children playing with matches, like high school cliques. I have both a g+ and facebook group (AmericansMovingtheDebtDebate) where in gathering some data---articles by Galbraith, debt during all presidencies, where the US stands in quality of life--it becomes clear the concerns of the broad citizenry are not being addressed. I had 9 signatures since posting yesterday. Can we make this more compelling?

We can fix the jobs situation by simply remove US patent and copyright protection from any products produced outside the United States. This will allow companies to relocate if they choose, but then allow other companies which base operations in the US to compete against them to make the same product. Even to the point of infringing copyrights.(If and only if the copyright holder produces his goods outside the united states)
Any legislation of this nature would require a grace period for products already manufactured overseas. also limitations of what percentage of "components" could be overseas would need to be addressed.
It would take work. But if this were to become a major plank in the Democratic platform, (It already is part of the sub-conscious idiology) we could look forward to vast economic growth.

How quickly are elected Democrats forget when it comes to supporting our President. They let those fork tongue Republicans persuade them and divide them and now we have a "Hot Mess". Republicans made Billions off of Americans back with those illegal Sub-Prime loans, a millionare was made every 15minutes! now that they have bankrupt the Country they want to turn it around and make it President Obama's fault; I don't think so. They sat slient for 8 years and let Bush run this Country into the ground, not one voice spoke up! But now John Boehner wants to block everything when he has been the problem.
We can't forget in 2012! These Tea Party, KKK, Right wing nuts are trying to push their agenda, President Obama needs to push back!
and Veto anything that they put forth, stop trying to hold their hands they are snakes and don't want to help America just their pockets!
