Should we expect any dramatic changes in Russia in foreseeable perspective? I guess we shouldn’t. At least this is the vision of some people I’ve been long on friendly terms with. They have been working as news reporters and freelancers in Moscow.
Truth is that opposition is rather feeble in Moscow and generally in Russia. Many D.C. politicians are of the same opinion... well ...say vice-president Joe Biden. During his last time in Moscow he talked with some so called Russian democrats and human rights advocates. Well that was not a touchy-feely meeting but rather a mish-mash of people just trying to get more money "to further democracy in Russia"! To put it mildly, Biden was strongly disappointed. He tried to start some serious talk. But the guys were just in total denial sorting it out with each other over "how much" and "when" they could get their share of money.
Well, I only know that Biden put it plain later that "there had been raised mighty army of spongers glued to the American money pocket and daring to call themselves opposition". In reality he was less choosy about the wording but the meat of the phrase was just this. We should either stay a "friend with benefits" for Russian opposition and embrace it with all its inner garbage or we should quit that waste of time and money imho.
