Most people aren't aware of this, but the United States women are not allowed in combat roles in the military. They are limited to non-combat roles, such as driving vehicles, establishing bases, and engineering, just to name a few. I for one am against this, I believe that women are every-bit as capable as men. Sure, most women may be physically weaker than most men, and sure it's possible they could go on their period in the middle of a mission, or a relationship may form between two soldiers, add on to that that males are often more protective of women than they are of other men, and terrorists like to torture females more than they do males (including rape and sexual abuse), plus terrorists think of women as inferior and are less likely to surrender to a female than they would a male.

Despite these "drawbacks," I'm still completely for full rights for women serving in the US military. What are your thoughts on this?

I thought I'd talked about this in another post, but I cant find it...... must be slipping! :)

As a veteran, I can say that in a theater of war EVERYONE is in a "combat unit". Bombs and bullets do not care if you are in the quartermaster corp, a nurse/doctor, truck driver or any other support unit. They kill you just the same. Especially in the "conflicts" we are now in what unit you belong to makes very little, if any, difference.

Seeing as to how our military reserves its highest honors and accolades to "combat soldiers", keeping women out of those units so designated limits their advancement in the career of their choice.

To LLBARRY....I don't know where you have been lately, BUT WOMAN DO SERVE ABOARD U.S.S. Carrier Ships...you cannot get anymore of a combat position as that...they have and do serve proudly...I know because I have served with them...(on a side note. I'ld rather have a few of them with me if I was ever in a fight) and as was posted....All service members are in technically combat positions...we have female helicopter pilots who fly into and out of hot zones...
BUT TRUTHFULLY, America is not ready to see Female Body Bags in great numbers...I'm not saying that they cannot do the job...cause I know they can...but we as Americans do not want to see our daughters killed in battle...this may not be fair...but it is who we are as a nation....

just an update,

the first class of women submariners will be graduating shortly...18 women in a class of 74...whether it is a Boomer or Fast attack...they are both front line combatpositions...so let's stop hearing that women are not allowed into combat situations...
