Read: Columbine: Whose fault is it? by Marilyn Manson
vs.
Sarah Palin's "blood libel" defense.

The same people rallying around Palin now were calling for Marilyn's kneck back in '99, and the case against the shock-rocker was far weaker from any objective standpoint.
The difference between Palin and Manson approaches to defending themselves is that unlike Sarah, Marilyn recognizes society's "collective responsibility" to prevent acts of mass murder.

The charge is not that Palin inspired the killers, but that she has not done enough as a national leader to speak out against the violent revolutionary rhetoric spewing forth from all over the right, and from those that she has served as a cheerleader for......
Ultimately, Loughner had poliical motivations, but they were of his own making. And from the bits and pieces of political thoughts and ideas that he has expressed in various online forums and mediums, there is a substantial amount of evidence to suggest a link between the killer's anti-government views and the influence of the Bad Gonzo Craziness of rightwing America.

In my view this statement is 100000000000000000% right. I remember the manson example, I was 13. Now I'm very evolved in the political media, by that I mean The Rachel Maddow Show. And I've been thinking of this, Back in 1999 the christian right was obsessed with blaming Marylin Manson for columbine. Just because those wackos listen to his music. And now when the tables have turned like sarah palin said. we should blame the individual for what happen and not society. well why in 1999 the right wanted to pin the massacre on Manson? And everything that reflected violence, but the people pointing fingers never blamed the kids but society. So I ask, where's the logic??? I don't get it, do you???

Whoa, whoa, Klebold and Harris listened to KMFDM and Rammstein....they didn't even listen to Manson.  For godsakes, Harris was more into Adolf than Marilyn Manson.
And remember, the charge against Palin is not that she inspired Loughner, it's that she has not done enough to condemn the rhetoric of revolutionary violence spewed forth by those allied with her......
This kid was influenced by far out anti-government conspiracy ideology.....the kind of stuff that has made the likes of Alex Jones very wealthy. And while Jones and Palin aren't on the same page, (he calls her a Neo-Con and a traitor to the Tea Party) the fact is they are linked by Rand Paul, who they both support.

What Palin fails to understand is that the mob she has helped build into a frenzy could one day easily turn on her....The hatred for Neo-Cons amongst the libertarian anti-war right is real and palpable, and it's not like the Tea Party doesn't make violent threats against establishment Republicans too....
This is Bad Gonzo Craziness and it can only end badly.
The Big Darkness has Cometh, you bet'cha.

I agree the right has an almost monopoly on hysteria. And..... oh boy will this not be taken in the right way.... I almost ALMOST admire them for that. They do a much better job of reaching "the people" than we do. They know instinctively that fear is one of humanity's most basic emotions and stop at nothing to stoke that fear and capitalize on it. It's almost funny that one of this jerks (Tucson shooter) main books was mein kampf. Has anyone here ever read it? I am a really huge history fan , especially W.W.II, so I have. Most of it is exactly the tripe you have been told to expect...... but the sections (about a 1/3 of it) on propaganda are truly worth reading. "Go for the big lie", "Repeat the lie long enough and loud enough and it will be believed","Give the masses scapegoats/something to fear","The other side is all traitors and are ruining the nation/people","Only our side is just","Never compromise because compromise is weakness in the masses eyes", does any of that sound familiar?

As i said the wingnuts in this country will say and do anything to make THEIR side victorious, and palin and her ilk will never acknowledge even a moments doubt because that would be perceived as weakness in their twisted minds. "The masses are like sheep who yearn for a strong herder". Yes that is from the same section of mein kampf, and for a certain percentage of our population it holds truer than you know.

I agree. Back in September I posted my list of "The Seventeen Habits of Highly Successful Tea Party Republicans." Nos. 6, 10 and 11 on the list were based on my own observations made over time, but thanks to indianacarnie, I now know that what the Republicans are practicing, they got right out of Hitler's Mein Kamph. I suspect that if one was to dig even further into history, we would find the same tactics used by other totalitarian dictators. Sad to say, they work...

6. Fear:  Be a monger of fear to manipulate the masses.  Fear always trumps critical thinking.

10. BIG LIE: People succumb to the BIG LIE. Tell the lie, distort the truth, ignore the truth. Facts that don't fit with our lie should be discarded or ignored.

11. Repetition, repetition, repetition:  Repeat the lie often. The more the lie is repeated the more  the media will repeat it, and soon it'll be accepted as a fact that even we can believe in.

Great stuff from all....

The Tea Party is a weird nexus point in the whacky world of rightwing America.  It's important to recognize....there is no Tea Party per se.....there are multiple factions and a variety of undercurrents, all of which identify with the imagery of the American Revolution as a selling point.

And indeed, not all of these groups get along, and there is quite a bit of jockying for position and in-fighting......

But the emergence of a dissident rightwing movement rooted in mad as hell "Network" outrage open for definition has brought forth an explosion of radicalism...and when examining the Tea Party, an objective researcher discounts the role that conspiracy theory has played at their peril.

The original Tea Party was effectively a triad of the Ron Paul-Alex Jones faction, Palin social conservatives, and various 3rd Party Conservative supporters.

I agree, they dont always agree with one another. UNTIL the hysteria starts then its more of a "the enemy of my enemy is my friend". Many truly believe that people like me and most of us here are dangers to the nation. Not just someone who holds a different opinion on something but a veritable traitor for not seeing exactly as they do. And "scared" people are dangerous people. Even a rat will fight if they are backed into a corner. The people whipping up "these people" are playing with fire for petty political gains to please their corporate bosses. We are in danger of losing our great country for nothing more than money.

Beck, Palin and Angle, keep screaming for Second Amendment activism and now they got it. What is really aggravating is that now that violence has occurred, Palin is sympathizes with the victims and is denouncing the shooting. She post a U.S. map with three cross hairs in Arizona!!!!

I'm looking forward to seeing if she or anyone else tones down the violent rhetoric now or if they will just wait a 6 months or so and then pick it back up again in preparation for the 2012 elections.
