The Wiki Leaks have stirred many pots. Freedom of Speech, at the very least, and now it's stirring the pot of our defense and army areas.
These leaks have provoked great minds to reverse much of what was once a great idea, the sharing of information within our intelligence divisions. Personally, I think this sharing is one of the only real checks and balances those departments have. And now some of that is being pulled? Check out this article.

My question is the age old question, when does our Freedom of Speech end and the powers of our defense departments begin?

Live Battefield operations. period.
Freedom of Speech doesn't cover announcing active troop positions.
I'm in radical favor of everything else being out in the open.

Now I'm reading advice to not share the wiki leaks, if you ever plan to do government or classified work as any forwarding of this "still" classified material could show that you don't have respect for classified material and could possibly use it in the same manner.

OK I have a couple problems with this.
1) While it is still classified as classified, it is no longer classified.
2) Are they really going to open each and every social network and website you have ever been on and if its several years in the future, are the social and websites really going to hold on what you posted several years ago forever?

In addition in this article, it actually says that the State Department is the one that said this to studets. But the same article also says the State Department denies this.

So do you think posting information about this forced de-classifed material now, will actually affect your career later?

I guess, one of my questions with all of this is... why should gossip be held as classified secrets? See this article.  This article, discuss a hack on Googles computers last year and how a "source" said that China's Government ordered the hack.  Ok Ok

This may or may not be gossip....But my question is this really classified material?

Couldn't you of found out more by simply putting this little tid bit onto the internet as gossip and waited to see how they responded?

In addition, if this is true and intellectual property was copied... shouldn't you let more business know that this is possible, so they can safe guard their property? After all the ignorant, remain ignorant.
