I re-posted this from my Gonzo Babbling Thread...thought it was important enough topic to deserve its own thread.

Republicans strike down DADT repeal...by filibustering the defense authorization bill.
I suggest watching Maddow's report to understand what these bastards are trying to pull.
First of all this is a law defering to the military...allowing the military to change the policy, if it so chooses when the Pentagon's review is complete.

Listen up, people,  OUR GAY AND LESBIAN BROTHERS AND SISTERS JUST GOT SCREWED.

If only we would all Stand and fight for them.....
"May God have mercy on our dirty little hearts." - "Zero Sum" by Nine Inch Nails.   In the words of Barry Goldwater, "You don't have to be straight to shoot straight!"  He warned us about what his fellow conservatives had become.....what his movement had become.
McCain is the real asshole in all of this....the heir to Barry's seat out there in Arizona.....who's adamant opposition to the bill sealed it's fate.
I use to have a man-crush on McCain...back in the Straight Talk Express Days of the 2000 Election....he was Barry Goldwater, reformed, back then, but as we can see now, it was just an adjustment to the electoral winds, just as his steady continuous move to the right over the past decade has been.  All the man has left is his honor...his badge of having beared an unimaginable agony on behalf of this country at the hand of the North Vietnamese.   McCain may be chalk full of it, but it would seem most hurtfully true for all those concerned, who once loved him, that in the words of Mark Twain, "Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel."   And I say this with a foul sickness churning in my belly, the desire to throw up is now very real.  The American political experience is like a constant acid-flash back, its like the movement of the people into the future is constantly stopped dead in its tracks, by some psychic forces reaching out from points in the past, grabbing hold of contemporary life and inducing everyone to seizures.    "When people run in circle-s, it's a Very, Very Mad World" - Tears for Fears.

Rachel Maddow has been the champion of gay rights amongst the mainstream media.  I wish her well, but the forces against her are formidable. The solution to the DADT problem would seem simple enough with the added push from recent court rulings. However, despite what lip service some Republicans might give for repealing DADT, when push comes to shove, they will always support the "collective"...always. Forget the "mavericks." The Republican Party has none.

The social conservatives (i.e. the Christian right) is a major part of that collective...individual Republicans, no matter their personal beliefs,  cannot go against them on this and other gay rights issues or they will be stripped of their committee chairs or other Republican perks.  It is never "country first"...never has been and never will be.

As this Washington Post article points out, "Christian conservatives warn that the GOP could lose its base if it endorses same-sex marriage or takes other pro-gay-rights stands."

The clip of John McCain denying that the military spies on soldiers is a classic case of cognitive dissonance.  He is incapable of processing alternative facts that don't fit with his prejudices.

As I said in my above post, 'the social conservatives (i.e. the Christian right) is a major part of that collective...individual Republicans, no matter their personal beliefs,  cannot go against them on this and other gay rights issues or they will be stripped of their committee chairs or other Republican perks.  It is never "country first"...never has been and never will be."

So will Republican Senators Olympia Snow and Susan Collins and Scott Brown and Lisa Murkowski and Dick Lugar and maybe John Ensign vote to repeal DADT?  Perhaps...but the Dems also have a few bigoted Senators that quietly agree with John McCain.

If DADT is not repealed, look at how those Senators listed above voted...party first...or country first.  Then check to see which Democratic Senators were turn-coats.

I think that "party first" wins out but I hope I'm wrong. Agree or disagree?

Just found out the Crypt keepers joined by Blue Dogs blocked the Dream Act today.....despite Republican defections. Any Democrat who doesn't sign on should be sent packing! Period! This is non-negotiable! How dare they call themselves Democrats? Baucus, Nelson, Pryor, Tester, and Hagan are now on Kaboom's enemies list! I hope this doesn't get censored by the moderators. I realize the Big Darkness is no time for Democrats to turn on one another.....but what's the point in unity when they still bat for the otherside? Give my latino brothers and sisters a freakin brake...this is a bill that barely moves the goal post on immigration. It's America the beautiful, remember? It's not America the cold and depraved! Get with it! Support Liberty! Support the American f#$%ing Dream.
