I have to admit that whenever I check out Rush Limbaugh's website, he is going on and on in a rage about something very bad about Obama or Pelosi or liberals or Muslims.  There is no critical thinking to his rage...it's just yaddah, yaddah, yaddah...a long boring monologue. Media Matters provides a sample of his obnoxious and false headliners. It is updated daily so just click on the link.

According to the Washington Post, Rush Limbaugh's radio show is broadcast on 600 stations nationwide plus "about 400 stations of varying audience sizes via the Armed Forces Radio Network." The size of his audience is disputed, in the range of 30 million to 14 million, by far the number one in radio broadcasting. And he is making tons of money with a $400 million, eight year contract.

So what are the demogrphics of the people who listen to Limbaugh?  According to Quantcast, they are white (96 %), males (74 %), over 50 (49 %) and mostly college educated (50 %). It kind of matches the Tea Party demographics. I wonder if that's where those old white men in the Tea Party became so right wing...they are avid Limbaugh listeners.

For anyone that takes just a few minutes to research or think about any of his daily topics, it is obvious that is is blowing smoke and pandering to the "macho old white guy." He has lots of listerners but is he good for America? Does his rhetoric have the seeds of fascism?

He bores me. But his ability to pick a public figure or a progressive idea and hold it (or them) up to ridicule and hate resonates with too many of our fellow citizens.

The public is like a lumbering, stupid animal that once prodded into action can be guided with a big bag of hate. Rather than work to elevate themselves they prefer to improve their relative state by tearing down others.

This works when the public is as mis-informed as we are today.  And with nearly all our news media controlled by the same few hands it's likely we will stay that way.

I'm with you guys.  White males over 50 are worthless and have no value in our world.  Why can't they be seem to get it? Are they just obtuse? They think they know what is best.  It seems they think their kind founded our nation... oh wait... nevermind.

And they believed that all men are created equal right?   Men, of course, being white Europeans...nice to see that we've changed that policy.  God Bless, Abraham Lincoln, the 13th Apostle of the Republic, who modified the Union...to end the hypocrisy upon which it was originally built.

Oh, and it was also nice of you to leave me the last word, on the Republican Islamophobia discussion forum.

P.S. :  Jefferson was 33 when he wrote the Declaration of Independence.  Know your dead white men, before you start babbling about them.

In using the term "macho old white guy," I am guilty of stereotyping a segment of the population. To borrow Obama's words, they too are our, fellow citizens, in this country. [Their kids are] going to school with our kids. They’re our neighbors. They’re our friends. They’re our coworkers. I do not doubt their sincerity...they are good people...good Americans in many respects.  However, as an over 60 white guy, many of "my kind" do not embrace the far right politics of their race and religion.  Good Americans do not mock or demean those that are different because of the color of their skin, their nationality, their language, the clothes they wear or their political or religious beliefs...or their sexual preferences.

The "macho old white guy" that I have steroetyped wraps himself in the American flag...calls French fries "freedom fries" and otherwise hates the French for not supporting a war of choice...has always hated liberals, identifying them as enemies, like Jane Fonda, Jimmy Carter, the Clintons and now Barack Obama to name a few. He seeks reassurance from watching Fox News or listening to Rush Limbaugh.  He has a network of "think alikes" that exchange derogatory e-mails that demean anyone who is liberal, gay, not white, unChristian (whatever that means), and yes even women with their off color sexist jokes.  They live within a world of their own...a world where they just cannot seem to escape from their ingrained cognitive biases. I know because I have tried and failed using every fact based argument I can lay out for them. But many are still my friends.

The anti-intellectual bias of the angry, old, (wanna be) alpha-males  across this country is the driving force behind modern conservatism.

Has anyone seen any  tapes of the Reagan nominating conventions?....they're like  Nuremberg rallies.

"The anti-intellectual bias of the angry, old, (wanna be) alpha-males  across this country is the driving force behind modern conservatism."

While that may be, I think the modern version of conservatism is fueled by the propaganda bliz in the mainstream media. The average American is subjected to political gossip and mis-information everytime they turn on TV or open their newspaper.

The Democrats in congress throw in with the mis-informers so they don't look "liberal" to the dumbed down electorate.

And the 2000 election showed me that nothing will change through voting. If corporate america doesn't like the result the Supremes will just order the vote count halted. The recent decision giving corporations more rights than the citizens shows just how far this neofuedalism has taken over.

I don't know if the republic can be saved without another revolution. This government no longer serves the citizens and should be abolished!

But how that can be accomplished by this terribly mis-educated public is another story.

Chipper....this is crazy talk...and coming from me that is saying something.
Look, I'm with you when it comes to the Swine who need to be stopped, but I don't think destroying the republic, or what's left of it really, is the way to go.  It's the anarchists dillema.  What the hell would we replace the government with?  Do you want miillions of dead people on your conscious because the trucks didn't bring in the food?

Let it be known that I'm for Good Gonzo Craziness, as oppossed to Bad Gonzo Craziness.   And my friend, I'm sorry but abolishing the government falls under the latter.

Yes, Kaboom. My last was over the top. I don't advocate armed revolution. We have the means for revolution through civil disobedience like the French do when their government gets out of hand.

If the French government handed all power to corporations like the SOCUS did here the streets would be filled with angry people and normal business would halt. We must do that before so many of our freedoms are gone that we become captives of our own government.

But we won't.  Sometimes the rage I feel towards our complacent citizens boils over when I think of how we did nothing when Reagan disbanded PATCO (the air traffic controllers union). And how we just sit back and take it when the main stream press heavily covers a rally of 600 TeaBaggers while ignoring an anti war demonstration of thousands. What justice is there while criminal conduct that put us in an unnecessary war goes un punished?

Our fellow citizens are too cowed to stand up for the change we need to live as free men who actually embrace the values we brag about.

So what do we do? How to wake up the sleeping giant? Or do we go on as usual and concede the class war the economic elite have been waging against the reat of us?

Gonzo is good. But forgive me if I think it's too little too late.

Oh contrarie montfraie, the Gonzo Left wing does its best work when its back is against the wall.....get me on TV and I'll restore your faith in the American people.  El Prezidente Kaboom is a one of a kind Patriot, the likes of which this nation has rarely seen, if given the chance, I will light the fire that you see missing.  Nothing shames and dishonors the memory of our forefather's like indifference.  Criminals at least have motivation...to simply not care.....that is the real great evil....for as Edmund Burke, the founder of Anglo-Conservatism in the Western Hemisphere, offers, All that's necessary for the forces of evil to win in the world is for enough good men to do nothing.

Now i don't mean to beliddle your grievances, I share them....but to anyone seeking instant gratification from politics, I have a message....go home and masterbate.   It's a far more pleasurable than the pain and agony required to see through one inch of social change  from start to finish.  The work is hard.  The road is long.  The meaning is uncertain.  But in the end, we are either bound by a faith in our fellow man, or we are not.  Let it be known, my faith is all I have and know, and I believe that we can, and will do better one day, as a nation, and a people, and I'm committed to sacrificing my entire life for the sake of posterity, like our forefathers before.  By virtue of birth, this country has given me opportunities that I cannot in good conscience, forget, when the going gets tough, and all seems lost.  I go down with this ship, sir.  I ain't moving to Canada, if the shit hits the fan.  I might build an ark, but I'm defending my territory and my country from all threats foreign and domestic tell the very end.

Forgive my cynicism but I think it's over.

We had a class war and the upper class won. My proof is in the public acceptance of corporate dominance of our economy and electoral process.

If there was any hope for the American myths we were fed as school children they went out the window when the Supreme Court ordered the 2000 Florida vote count halted and there was no uprise. 200 years ago crowds would have rushed the court house and chased the judges out of town.

I guess it's silly of me to care when 90% of my fellow citizens don't.

If I was young maybe I would move to Canada. I don't like carrying the moral burden of the terrible damage done with my tax money.

Chipper......YA' GOTTA BELIEVE.

Since the begining, Americans have assumed IT WAS OVER.

It was over in the winter of 1776.   It was over during the summer of 1812.  And in The 1830s.    And it was over....in the 1860s.   And the 1930s.  And the 40s.  And the 50s.  And the 60s.  And the 70s .........you see my point.

Now, even if we  believe its over, we still got to try.........they've only beaten us, when we've given up.   Americans don't quit.  We fight, even when all seems lost.   If the troops at Guadalcanal had your attitude....we would not have secured the island.  There would have been no defense of Australia.  There would have no turning point for our side in the war.  Damn it, man!  Pull yourself together!  There's a war to be won!

WHEN I WALK IN THE VALLEY OF THE SHADOW OF DEATH,  I FEAR NO EVIL, except the indifference of good men!
IT AIN'T OVER TILL THE FAT LADY SINGS, AND THAT BITCH AIN'T ON STAGE YET!
excuse my language.

I have to admit that sometimes I feel like Chipper.  What gets to me most is how ignorance trumps facts and intellectual thought.  I watched the jubilant Tea Party crowds celebrating Christine O'Donnell's victory last night, and I remembered that we had that passion and energy once when we elected Obama to the White House.

Several months ago I attended our precinct caucus meeting to vote on several issues and candidates.  When I showed up there was no one there from my precinct so the precinct chairs from the other precincts asked if I would fill in for the evening, which I did.  Well only one other Democrat from our precinct showed up, and I am now the self elected Precinct Chair and she's the Precinct Secretary.  I didn't really want the job at the time, but I have since made it my goal to ensure that every Democrat in our precinct votes on November 2nd, even if I have to drive them myself. In October up until election date I will be knocking on doors dishing out literature on local and state candidates. I will do it  with enthusiasm and passion and hope that some of it rubs off and gets people to vote. I do this because I do believe that we liberals outnumber the conservatives when it comes to where we stand on the important issues of the day, but unfortunately we do not often outnumber them when it really matters...voting on election day.

Way to go, Frank!   Once you've organized that precinct.....you need to run for office.  Talk that common sense to people.

Things may not go as We hope come November....We may lose the House....We may lose the Senate....We may lose both.....and I'm sure We will lose a few more governorships......but what matters is that We try....that We make the effort....that We put up a fight and that We don't go quietly into the night.  There's always a chance.   Nothing is certain.  No seat in the loser's lounge with our name on it.  No magnet pulling Us there.  No demagogue We can't stop.  No tyrant that can keep Us down.   I eat Pigs for breakfast.  We are the Champions of Liberty.  We offer a More Perfect Union. And We fight for ALL THAT COULD HAVE BEEN in the name of all of our murdered leaders.  For We are the Children of Assassination and  We are bound to a cause greater than ourselves.  And  We are the last and best hope for the American Dream.  Join us, people.  Join other "Road Warriors for the Lords of Karma."   Get with it.
