First, of all, drug testing welfare recipients is a state's choice. This means that there is currently no federal law regarding this and each state will make their own laws regarding this issue.
As of June 2009, Michigan was the only state to have enacted drug testing requirements of welfare recipients. Only 10% of people tested positive for drugs and only 3% test for hard drugs such as cocaine. See
article
.
In this day an age, where marijuana is closer than ever to being legalized. Does it make sense to deny welfare to people who are on drugs, that 3%?
In reality, it will be more costly to run a drug testing program that will take into account false positives than to pay welfare out to the 3%.
What do you think?

I guess taxpayers are willing to forked up the monies for each individual applying for federally funded programs such as food stamps, medical assistance, and daycare. What about the children involved in these programs? Will the parents, who are considered potential drug users be criminally charged with using? How will this affect drug courts and jails all across America? How does this help many children who could be remove from their homes because false or negative results?
Children in some states will be removed from their families and possibly placed in abusive foster homes that already exist without any investigations. Some states use these strategies to increase funding for adoption, whereby placing innocent children in homes that practice incest and other deviate behavior.
Will these states make the potential low-income participants pay for the drug testing that may cost $100 or more by sending them to drug testing facilities funded by the states for finanicial funds? Most facilities charge the state, then the state charges the low-income participant and if they aren't able to pay here comes the collection agencies to pick up the tab. What is the real motivation behind all this? Oppression and greed?

Drug testing of welfare recipients is just another of the Republican "phony wars" designed to create hate against a class of citizens that are down on their luck. It serves no purpose whatsoever. So what happens if they find a person that has smoked a marijuana joint? Take away his/her welfare benefits? What does that achieve? Put the welfare recipient in prison to become a slave of the corporate prisons? That just adds to the some billion dollars we spend each year to incarcerate pot users.
It's really all about "punishment" of a class of people that Republicans hate. Punish the poor...kick them while they are down. It provides a kind of sadistic pleasure trip to those Republicans that wallow in ignorance and have have nothing but disdain for the poor. They probably grew up in a household where spanking as a form of punishment for not being obedient was practiced. It is sadistic.
Republicans know that selling Hate works...it helped get Reagan elected as he campaigned across America against the fictional "welfare queen." Gingrich is selling hate when he calls President Obama the "food stamp President." Hate is just another emotion that Republicans play upon to divide the poor from the middle class. Rush Limbaugh profits from selling hate. Sean Hannity profits from selling hate. Fox and Friends profit from selling hate. But all of their hate rhetoric is filled with selfishness and ignorance.
We have enough hate in America. We don't need more.

MSNBC profits from selling hate. Bill Maher profits from selling hate. Jeremiah Wright profits from selling hate. The "Huffington Post" profits from selling hate. Why is it when Leftist media outlets, or Leftist individuals, spill slander, libel, and lies, it's not regarded as hate? This has always been the Liberal double standard. Present everything and everyone who disagrees with them as hate mongrels.
I agree, we need less hate. Less hate from the Left.

Yeah it's not hate when you and Libertycitizen call Obama a socialist, propagate vicious lies, and smear him as an evil incarnate!
Why? Because you can't be wrong! Everything you believe in is true by virtue of your belief in it!
And we're supposed to do whatever you say!

I don't hate Barack Obama. I disagree with his ideogoly. And yes, I believe he is a Socialist. So were several Milwaukee mayors before 1960. I don't believe I have ever knowingly told a lie regarding the President. I do not think he is evil. I think his policies are well intentioned, but also smack of despotic control over society. Am I not entitled to these beliefs without being labeled as someone who is filled with hate?
Might I be wrong? Yes. I might be wrong about my opinions on the President. If he is re-elected and America is a better place in 2016 (jobs, the economy, foreign policy, national security, energy, etc), I will admit that I was mistaken about the Obama Administration. However, I doubt that will be the case if he serves a second term. I am not someone who believes I am right all the time. But I won't refrain from expressing how I feel now.
With that said, I do not hate Barack Obama. I simply hope he loses his bid for re-election on November 6. For at this moment in time, I believe his policies and plans for the United States is leading us to a dangerous, and less prosperous future.
