Well it depends on who you ask. Some will say yes and say that it would have to been intelligent design for everything to work and be as complex as it is. I personally believe no simply becasue I believe that anything is possible.

Well, as an atheist who views "faith" as "art," I applaud the intelligent design crowd...at least they're adaptive to scientific discovery. Compared to Creationists, these people are quite preferable. One could very well say, that since Vatican II, the Catholic Church has believed in intelligent design. Growing up Catholic, I was taught that the Bible was one part fable, one part history, and one party prophecy. And in the end, as an adult I have come to believe that atheists and people of faith believe in the same ultimate thing.....people of faith, agnostics included, just have a more raw human "view" of it all. I say Peace be to everybody....believe in whatever you want, just don't commit any crimes of moral perpetuity while you are doing it.

I'd agree with you, Kaboom. But then again, is there religion without war? :)
...
The only proof of ID that I have ever seen that wasn't completely unbelievable is the concept of irreducible complexity such as in the bacterial flagellum.

Which of course, is debunked here:

Yes, there is some proof of intelligent design. It was written by a gentleman named Charles Darwin, in his book "Origin of Species".  Many call his book "Theory of Evolution" -- but that is not the real title.

For some reason that I have never really understood, most people believe that Darwin was an atheist. BUT that is totally untrue. People who think this have obviously never read his book "Origin of Species."

While in college biology, I had to study Darwin's book & I was amazed to find that Darwin mentions God in his book all the time. Many times he talks about the "creation" & how magical this life on earth really is.

He believes that God created this wonderful planet and all the life on it. He just believes that God created our earth using the method of "evolution".  It is really more of a Grand Scheme, than just plopping down some clay & saying This is a Man.  And another piece of clay & saying This is a Giraffe. And so on.

Evolution gives you a powerful picture of God's majesty and imagination, & how he can do things on a much grander stage than we could ever conceive. He could imagine life evolving like a cosmic ballet floating thru space, swirling in rainbow hues, to timeless music of the spheres, in a heavenly choir.

You see, God is ETERNAL -- he is not in a hurry -- he has FOREVER to complete his glorious creation.
There is no Time Clock up there in heaven. No reason to finish things in a 7 day work week.

First off, Origins of Species was published in November of 1959. In 1879, Darwin was quoted saying that while he was never an atheist in the sense of denying the existence of a God,"agnostic would be the more correct description of my state of mind."

He went on to say, "Science has nothing to do with Christ, except insofar as the habit of scientific research makes a man cautious in admitting evidence. For myself, I do not believe that there ever has been any revelation. As for a future life, every man must judge for himself between conflicting vague probabilities."

Second off, how is one man's opinion of why things happen proof of ID? He may have, at one time, personally believed that God was using evolution as a tool.... But he never produced any evidence of such claims. That was just his original hypothesis... which, from reading his quotes, seems to have changed over time.

My hypothesis is that the Creator / Intelligent Designer of our known Universe is an alien called Susan!

I might be wrong but so far the legitimate evidence against my proposition remains a constant zero!

Haha. Why won't Susan show her face?
Wait a minute. Is Susan a "her"?
Does she work in Mysterious Ways?

My view is that if the intelligent designer (oh, come on, it's god) is all powerful, what do we need capillaries for? Or spleens? He could just as easily have made us out of pure cotton balls like we're stuffed animals toys, and still made us worship him and perform all our regular functions as well. There is no reason for complexity if you are the omnipotent, omniscient, loving and most-merciful, creator of Everything.

If he was trying for complexity, he did it irrational randomness.

At least one sensible theologian in the early church wanted to be shot of the Old Testament as anything but background material, and it is about time we followed his lead.  But for this collection of tribal stuff, especially Genesis, nobody would be wasting his only life on Creationism or Intelligent Design and we could get on with more interesting things like explaining global Warming to the brainwashed illiterates.  What on earth is the point of this extraordinary historical re-enactment?
