Here is a quote from Cheney's recent interview with Sean Hannity on Fox:
Source: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,579828,00.html
"The fact that we provided it for millions of people all over the globe, have done so unselfishly. There's never been a nation like the United States of America in world history.
And yet when you have a president who goes around and bows to his host and then proceeds to apologize profusely for the United States, I find that deeply disturbing.
That says to me, this guy who doesn't fully understand or share that view of American exceptionalism that I think most of us believe in."
Cheney's not the first conservative to tout this concept of American exceptionalism, but why do conservatives hold on to this notion so dearly. Clearly, we are not such an "exceptionally" great country as we have the most expensive health care system in the world, we try to do nation building in foreign countries when money would be much better spent building at home, and we do all of this while standing on tainted land stolen from the Native Americans.
All that is perhaps even besides the point. While America may have its virtues, why should we believe that we are for some reason better than other countries? This is nothing short of arrogance. What do you guys think?
