Reference: Minnesota Independent, Right Wing Watch: Heath Care Reform is Against God's Design, Aug 2009

In the referenced article, Andy Birkey reports that the "religious right is ramping up its campaign against health care reform, even joining with the “tea party” movement to encourage conservative Christians to swamp town hall meetings."

Birkey states that "The Minnesota Family Council says that Obama’s plan for health care reform is against God’s design."

"Some may ask what does God have to do with our health care system,” wrote Minnesota Family Council president Tom Prichard. “For one, He’s created the government as an institution in society to do certain things. When we reject His design for government, in a sense, we’re rejecting Him.”"

Meanwhile, the Christian Coalition of America is pitting seniors against immigrants. Health care reform would “provide healthcare to illegal aliens, while rationing care to elderly and disabled American citizens.”

I suppose this answers my previous post on why Christians are opposed to heath care reform.  It still doesn't make sense to me.  With 45,000 Americans dying every year because of lack of health care coverage, it would seem that Christian groups would be more "Christian like." God's design? Ha! What would Jesus say?

I think the question you pose at the end of your post is an interesting one, and has baffled me quite some time as well. The idea that Christians are for helping their fellow man and doing all that kind of "Christian like" stuff, as you put it, seems logical. However, every time there is any sort of social reform, the Christian groups align with the Republican Party to oppose the measures. Why is that the majority of people involved in the field of international development are liberal atheists? Indeed, in the cases where Christians do participate in this field, it is most of the time in an evangelical capacity.

It's things like this that make me ashamed to call myself a Christian. We change the government daily. That's what congress and the House is for. Aren't the in place to make new laws that keep up with the times? Why is this different? How can they not feel any shame for promoting the murder of Americans, or anyone else, for that matter?

Can you provide more context on you comment about laws keeping up with the times. Some support for the argument would be useful too.
