Rush Limbaugh continues his attacks on the Obama administration on a daily basis, from the petty to the genuine criticism. Republicans seem afraid to cross him. Without a strong Republican front runner for the 2012 Presidential race, is Rush Limbaugh setting the Republican agenda for 2012?

Rush is a popular radio host and nobody is afraid of him, except those who "feel" threatened by his words, and I would credit that to a low self esteem. I think people fail to forget that free speach can be offensive to some, and if they do not like what he is saying, there's nobody holding a gun to your head forcing you to listen. I think it's silly to make Rush more than what he is - a popular voice of many - most of whom are very frustrated with Washington DC. Can you imagine a world where no one can speak out anymore? Sounds like Communism and it's not going to come to America.

I made the original posting about Rush Limbaugh a year and a half ago or one month after Obama took office. At the time, the defeated Repubicans were struggling to find a common voice.
Republican Rep. Phil Gingery of Georgia expressed criticism
of some of Rush Limbaugh's statements, but under pressure from constituents was forced to back off and apologize to Limbaugh. Later Michael Steele was forced to do the same thing. Read about it in the
NY Times article
. He was effectively censored by his own party.
Rush Limbaugh was indeed the voice of the GOP at that time and was the key note speaker at the
Conservative Political Action Conference.
I certainly support Rush's First Amendment right to say whatever he wants to say on his radio talk show. But it is also my right to question the accuracy of what he says.
And yes I can imagine a world in which free speech is not allowed anymore. But will it be because of communism or fascism? The two political philophies are at the opposite end of the spectrum. I frankly fear more from the Republican shift to the right...towards fascism, and apologies to Limbaugh are symptomatic of that shift. I just hope for America's sake they don't get back into power.
