Trump is again going to Montana for an rally; he has done so the past weeks just about every other day. Who is paying for this big monster plane, security etc. all the time while it is totally for himself. He has spent up till now at least over 300 million of tax payer money on his personal trips.

The same applies if the idiot wants to invade Venezuela; should not the Congress approve such, as well all his trips for nothing, also to Moscow for certain GOP senators, all this for himself to boosts his ego ?

How stupid can this country get; if you become President then the sky is the limit and you can spent like crazy, while little kids in cages suffer. Indeed there is the no law or rule in this country for the leaders. Oversight is totally out of the window, ask Pruitt. May I puke.

No one replies; thus everyone agrees with this ridiculous spending; Pruitt had to quit; why not Trump, he wastes much more and is ruining this country. He even reversed the protection of sea turtles and whales as well locks up and steals babies on our southern border. In the meantime he "rallies" with our tax money all over the place.

His base is not as massive as he and Fox want you to believe. He will be stopped, but it will take many years to try to restore some sanity. Yesterday I looked for info to advise the size of his base. Not as large as some suggest. They vote though. Hopefully more people with opposing views will.

Very strange times. 8 republican senators go to Russia on the 4th of July for what ? As the fat idiot becomes more unhinged daily . Thebtrailmof destruction this asshole is leaving around the world is something we have never seen before . The absolute arrogant refusal to conduct himself as an adult for even one minute has the entire world extremely unsettled. At what point do the adults in Washington say enough? Are the entire republican party trying to destroy our government ? Because I know that Putin is trying to do exactly that and using the fat asshole as his main tool.

Kakocrasy . We are wutnessing the end of our country. When will someone do something ?

If we really didn't like the result of the 2016 presidential election----and we really didn't like the person proffered by the Democratic Party, maybe we should ask ourselves why were these two individuals on the final ballot?

Answer: The system put them there.

Let's change out the system: davevolek.org/TDG/TDGindex.html

    No more political parties!

Yes, the outdated "system" with lots of wasted money and huge "loopholes" in their laws put them there. But the dumb Americans did not find that out yet.

Dave you should know by now that the US is not at all "ripe" for your idea's, therefore I'm not optimistic that their "structure" ever will change, since they made only very few "amendments" to the Constitution and only "live" by "case law" Things will get out of hand because no "laws" seem to apply to our leaders and leads to the chaos as it is now; regardless of that, they will stick to their old ways; the "flag and bible" is holy, but won't save them from what is to come.

Dave, The whole new govt. Remade is a nice concept but without calamity - it's just not going to happen. Small steps in the correct direction is a better decision. While we can dream about 100% improvement, it's not realistic for people to expect that.

In a way I have to agree. The current political players will not want to change things for two main reasons: (1) It is hard for them to change the system of power gathering that gave them the power, and (2) they are extremely busy people: try to imagine a fireman trying to install smoke alarms in a burning building! We should not expect any help from the current or a future crop of elected politicians.

A concept like the TDG will be built alongside the current system (and as the current system crumbles). It need only 1% (maybe even less) of the population to start building it: it need not get permission from 50%+1 of the citizenry . Involvement in this early TDG should be around 10 to 20 hours a month. The activities at this early stage should center around the experimenting of the democratic structure plus developing a new culture for democratic participation. During this early stage, the building of the TDG will be under the radar of the media and political parties.

There are three more stages to go through before the TDG assumes authority and responsibility for governance. As it is going through these stages, the TDG membership will grow and the general citizenry will trust and respect it more as time passes. This handover to the TDG, which will be similar to a losing political party ceding power to a winning political party, should be accompanied by legislative approval and a general referendum of the citizenry.

But it all starts with the 1% deciding their legacy will be that 10 to 20 hours a month to start things off.

Dave, take it from me that in this country their "tiny history" is "holy", their flag and bible are "holy", their previous leaders are "holy", their Constitution is "holy". "White Christian Republicans" are "holy" etc. Trump was sent by an "god" who speaks only Russian and is "holy". So how do you want to change all this "holyness"? ( you cant kneel at a football game nor burn a flag, but are allowed to make swimming trunks out of it and fart in it.)

Dutch: With universal suffrage, everyone is entitled to their opinion and can exercise that opinion in the voting booth. We have respect those voters for the decision they made. And to be fair, the D side did not proffer a candidate that could motivate people to spend an hour or two to make the trip to the voting booth and vote against the T.

I think Mr. Trump has maxed out his political base. There is no further growth in his political support.

All these protests, which will do little to convince Mr. Trump to change his mind, are actually a movement to get out the vote in 2018 and 2020. I'm anticipating a substantial change towards the D's in Congress in 2018. However 2020 may be a different story. The D's may decide the they have already won the presidency and again proffer a candidate unacceptable to the American people.

But I think the wiser Americans should be looking beyond these two dates. It's time to look beyond the circus.

Dave, wishful thinking; but I have a feeling that "fanatism" and "damage done" prevails. A way back to "normal" thinking is very difficult. An huge part of the country thrives on propaganda; FOX news makes sure of that. So I wonder if the Democrats wake up, because they don't have an "propaganda "machine". Don't forget the indoctrinated "evangelicals" ; Trump was sent by "god"; don't forget that. ( I don't believe that, I just talked to "god" via my cellphone; he said "who's Trump, I don't know him)

Tony, I absolutely can't understand that Trump can sit alone with Putin; where are the brains here? He certainly will not discuss sanctions etc. but mostly his own dealings (money laundering, pee tape, loans as well his exposure to Mueller etc.)

I guess this country is too stupid to stop him or have people with him who record everything what was said; likely the Russians themselves will tape/record this and use it to blackmail later on.

Jonathan Chait, New York Magazine, July 8, 2018: Will Trump Be Meeting With His Counterpart — Or His Handler?

TJ -- Thanks for sharing the above excellent article by Jonathan Chait. It's been something that has been gnawing on me for a long time. I am convinced that Donald Trump has been compromised by the Russians and Putin, but I didn't realize how far back it goes. Chait's article fills in a lot of the gaps for me.

Oh and that graphical depiction of the Trump and Putin ties reveals a lot for those of us who cannot piece together all the daily events. This should be required reading by everyone.

I'm sure glad you shared it.
