Without question, Donald Trump has accomplished a LOT since he first took office. However, with one (and ONLY ONE) exception, everything that he has accomplished has been BAD, which we are reminded of on a daily basis.

The one area that he actually accomplished something?

    Guns.

I'm not saying that our society has gotten safer. After all, the worst mass shooting in our country's history occurred in Las Vegas near the end of the year last year. (The Arizona man who sold the shooter his ammunition was recently arrested.) I am also not saying that states have passed better gun laws.

The irony of what has happened since inauguration day is that gun sales have plummeted, in spite of the fact that the NRA spent over $30 million to get the man elected. Daily Kos has termed this phenomena the "Trump Slump".

Remington, which is saddled with $950 million in debt, is in the process of filing for bankruptcy. Its sales of $154 million are down 30% from the same period last year, and earnings have gone down 78%. Its parent, Cerberus Management LP, has been having trouble finding investors since it was revealed that one of the company's Bushmaster rifles was used in the Sandy Hook shooting.

Smith & Wesson (which has been renamed American Outdoor Brands) has suffered a loss of nearly $100 million in sales, and its market capitalization has shrunk 43%.

Sturm Ruger has seen its market capitalization decrease by 27%.

The most recent thread on this site about guns was posted by Chet Ruminski on 2/2/2017. His last sentence was "Gun violence will probably increase".

    He is absolutely correct.

On January 30, 2017, Time magazine published an article that said that there was an 11% increase in big city homicides in 2016, which was the 2nd year in a row that metro areas saw jumps in homicide, robbery, and aggravated assault.

According to The Trace, on January 9, 2018, gun deaths continued to increase in 2017, and were roughly 3% higher than they were in 2016.

One of Trump's NEGATIVE accomplishments (and they are too numerous to list here) is that (according to the FBI) the number of hate crimes reached a 5 year high in 2016, and took a noticeable uptick at the end of 2016 after Trump's surprise victory.

I continue to be amazed at the number of people on sites like America Now or Opposing Views who think that Trump has accomplished a lot. Although I always strongly disagree with them, I think I'm going to start reminding them of the ONE THING that Trump has actually accomplished.

Excellent story! But yeah if there are already over 320 million guns around, do we need more? A market saturation?

Sorry, you can't make a list of all the negative accomplishments; it will be outdated in 5 minutes.

All the news points to a more violent country than two years ago. Might be I am looking for bad news to criticize Trump but the bad news around here is overwhelming.

Without doing any research on it, my view of the "Trump slump" in gun sales is that it is indeed market related. During the Obama years the Republican message was continually "Obama's going to take your guns away," which was very good for sales. Kind of like the stock market being oversold. And whenever there was a mass shooting, gun sales shot up.

Now after the eight good years of gun sales driven by the Obama factor, there is little to excite more sales under Trump. Plus those who have bought more and more guns in the "Obama scare" are now looking at their huge inventories. Many have decided that they have more guns than they really need knowing that Trump will never take their guns away.

However, those huge gun inventories in the hands of ordinary citizens need to be put to use. That's why there is an uptick in gun deaths. It is only natural that if you spent good money on a gun, it has to be put to use. That plus the anger and hate in our society incited by Trump is like a "gun use stimulus". Don't like a person? "Shoot the bastard." It's okay now under Trump. I saw a bumper sticker in a Home Depot parking lot: "The only good liberal is a dead liberal!" That kind of defines it.

"gun sales have plummeted" Guns are not consumables and oddly enough ammunition in this case is not a consumable because people don't shoot the guns they have. Any news clouding personal possession or intimating regulation will cause a jump in gun sales. In spite of the fact that guns are not used or in short supply in owners possession. People that have guns will spend all their discretionary money on guns just like a hobby, even though they don't use them. Ill bet there are at least 400 million guns or more in the USA.

People imitate their boss, leder. The places that I buy supplies from have counter people that act just like the owners.

Violence is growing just like KKK low level members carrying out the wishes of hierarchy. Trump set the level of mean, selfishness that I think is pervading the country,

A story on 60 Minutes last night was about legislation the NRA wants to get passed on a federal basis wherein anyone with a concealed carry permit will be allowed to disregard laws of other states or cities and carry their weapons anywhere at any time. Police chief's nationwide think it's a bad idea. Hopefully it won't happen.

They will lose. Universal licence , in the the United States, does not apply. It just does not exist. If you have a licence to drive in Ohio ,you can drive in Oregon. But if you have a licence to hunt ,not so much. So that is the law.
