It's like we're all living in a reality show. The President of the United States tweeted that he directed our Vice President to leave a football game if the players took a knee during our National Anthem. I feel like that sentence is the result of a Mad Libs game.

Earlier today our Vice President, Mike pence tweeted a photo of himself at the Colts vs 49ers game. Shortly after, Pence walked out of the game due to the protest of the National Anthem. Trump, which I should remind is our POTUS...., then tweeted in support of Pence, saying that he directed our VP to leave the game if there were any protests.

    The tweet from Trump:

    Donald J. Trump ?@realDonaldTrump

I asked @VP Pence to leave stadium if any players kneeled, disrespecting our country. I am proud of him and @SecondLady Karen.

First of all Trump, Pence, everyone at the stadium, everyone at home, and everyone else around the world that keeps up with the U.S. knew that it was going to happen. This was Trump poking at the NFL. This was our President going out of his way to irritate everyone involved with the protest and the NFL. This was Trump using another high-up member of our government to make a completely pointless statement and purposely provoke the Americans he is supposed to be leading. This was absolutely planned, per Trump himself in his tweet. So at some point the leaders of our country were actually having this ridiculous conversation. Imagine that.

You know, I have a feeling that both Trump and Pence, once again our President and Vice President of the United States, have something else to do. I can't quite put my finger on what they could be doing other than going to football games and tweeting, but I'm pretty sure something needs to get done that's more important than those. Maybe natural disasters? Or maybe terrorism? Maybe millions of people starving and homeless? Maybe the situation in North Korea? Maybe our disastrous healthcare system? Maybe government employees using entire budgets to fly around the world in private jets to stargaze and go on vacation? I don't know.... Now that I say it out loud, I guess football and Twitter is where we all need to be focusing our attention.

Two little children! It did cost the tax payer $ 245,000.- Why go to an football game just to listen to an anthem? I would go for the football game not for the anthem. When is this country finally going to realize that our leaders are wasting our time and money for their own ego's only. They both belong in the loony house.

Both should be evicted from the White House; but yeah thanks to our stupid laws Pence could become President. In any "normal" country "both " would be in jail by now. WAKE UP AMERICA!!!

Or you could immediately insist that persons of color get arrested and jailed at the same rate as whites. That the courts offer a fair approach and sentencing fairness. That plus some instructions to have human decency and shared respect.

Never mind !!!! That would be actually addressing and/or eliminating the problem. I only want to talk about it.

Given that more and more of our professional and college sports teams are multinational, it doesn't make sense to demand that "foreign" players stand with their hands on their hearts. Baseball especially has players from Latin America, basketball players come from all over the world, and hockey has more Canadians, Finns, Swedes, Norwegians, Russians, Croatians, and Swiss collectively than Americans.

I think we should dispense with the singing of the national anthem before any sporting event. It is a relic of the World War II era that should have been cast aside a long time ago. And how many know this:

Colin Kaepernick Is Righter Than You Know: The National Anthem Is a Celebration of Slavery

Read the lyrics in the third verse:

No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave,
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave

I don't know what that verse really means, but it is offensive to some.

It's weird that it mentions the land of the free and slaves in the same verse. Even someone living two hundred years ago should have had some sense of justice . How can this be the land of the free when so many were slaves ?

It's shows , to me , a disconnect that exists to this day. Kind of nails the entire topic.

Pence's temper tantrum cost the American taxpayer $242,500 in flight costs alone. We still don't know how much taxpayer money was spent on his hotel room in Indianapolis the night before and how much the extra security at the Colts-49's game cost because a dignitary (if you want to call him that) was visiting.

So this stunt cost the taxpayer well over $500,000 for him to go to a football game for 30 seconds.

This whole mock outrage is a joke and clouds the discussion that we should be having about why NFL players are taking a knee in the first place. Donald doesn't want to have that uncomfortable discussion, so he has masterfully turned it into a patriotic "us vs them" sideshow and the press has happily gone along with it.

It's so depressing when you think about it.

Idiots running our country. If this were Russia, dissenters would probably have been shot, which is what Trump and Pence probably wished they could do. Their base loves this kind of garbage.

Its my impression that the stunt considered to be mostly a failure largely because the original Knee was authentic and the NFL remains united behind their determination that trump "STAYS THE HELL OUT OF NFL"

Yeah, this was a 500K bomb. Not the last one either. trump tends to double down when he loses. If it cost 500K this time, he'll double it next time espeically if people start getting ticked off that he's wasting tax payers money. "So people didn't like I spent 500K to save the our flag, how about I spend 1 million on a gun rally. I have 3.5 years, I can spend a hell of a lot of money doing nothing just to tick people off. Fanstasic"

So how true is it that people on the Left perceive the label "Patriot" to be more negative than positive (except for historic figures) and those on the Right see the label represents everything they believe in, and everything the Left is not?

This is so true. Its exactly like how s0-called reality shows are produced. In advance the producers think of some kind conflict, and they set things up, light the fuse, then sit back and watch how people react. The TV audience does not know that several things were put into place to create something people react to. Remember the old Cannid Camera show; almost the some thing.... It's really manufactured reality for the purpose of entertainment.

Pence was not doing it as if it was a historic moment where he stands up and says "I am mad as hell, and I am not going to take it anymore" and storms out stadium, and they imagine history books all have something like this "The moment VP said the famous words of 'I am mad as hell, and I am not going to take it anymore' the clouds in the sky parted and the sun beamed down on just him. It was the day that changed the world. Less than 5 years later the NFL was out of business, replaced by the TFL (Trump Football League), where it was required that everyone stand during the national anthem. "

wwjd -- Good observation. Perhaps it's because it's no longer patriotism but rather hyper-patriotism. Patriotism does not divide us. It's the excessive hyper-patriotism of the far right that that seeks to demonize anyone who doesn't get on their ideological bandwagon.

The whole thing is just to see how "dictorial" they can become; creating "robots" like they do in NK is the objective. You have to obey like in "church" or the "army". Now Trump wants to review the "tax" what these football clubs pay as punishment. I guess Mr. "white power" forgets that they make swimming trunks from flags and fart in it.

Trump telling Pence to walkout implies Pence may not have walked out on his own initiative. Besides all the other criticisms including the cost and waste of time it is also a manufactured response. Trump doesn't have a philosophical position on anything. As he described himself he is a counter puncher, reactionary.

A player from the one team said it was clearly known that some players did not stand on their team. It was an arranged tantrum.
