    At least 50 people were killed and some 200 wounded by yet another mass shooting this time on the Las Vegas strip. I know we have discussed many mass shootings again and again on this website, but nothing ever seems to come of them. The gun manufacturers and their agent, the NRA, has bought our politicians.

    Here in Charlotte FL an dad killed his son while cleaning his gun by accident; love those guns for sure. How many times I've said that the antique laws in this country will be the downfall of this country. The "7 year old kid" (Trump) as well his family also love guns and go to Africa to shoot lions etc. They are an excellent example how crazy this country is.

    The shooter has been identified as Stephen Paddock. According to the article in the Daily Mail, the shooters brother, Eric, said there was "absolutely no indication he could do something like this" and he had no political or religious affiliation.

    "He was just a guy. Something happened, he snapped or something, he was just a guy."

    'He has no political affiliation, no religious affiliation, as far as we know. This wasn't a terror attack'.

    Just a guy...Isn't that a common theme that we hear from friends, neighbors and relatives after every mass shooting.

    President to speak in 30 minutes. I imagine that will be empathy and compassion. How soon until "If there were good people there with guns... This wouldn't have happened.

    Thoughts and prayers (for some who want prayers ) for the victims and first responders.

    Is there a solution to gun violence. Schmidt is the perfect candidate to actually run for a Democratic office. Perfect answers. He could have changed places with Hillary and won the presidency. If he can answer the question to solve gun violence then there is a solution. His answer to gun violence will be the position a presidential candidate would need to survive a campaign. That is why it is important to survive the issue. The only answer I have is no guns but that position is political death. I remember when drunk driving deaths were treated simply as a sad but inevitable result of drunk driving. That was an inhumane attitude but it was the rationalization. MADD fixed that. Attention needs to be called to and focused on that gun deaths are not just an inconvenience that accompanies guns. Every now and then air bags killed people. That wasn't accepted as an inconvenience of using air bags.

    As usual the "asshole" spoke without any feeling "stone cold" without any emotions; Obama was in tears. What a difference!

    Vox just put out a very interesting article titled "White American men are a bigger domestic terrorist threat than Muslim foreigners." It's great reading for those who are interested (for lack of a better word) in mass shootings and the dog whistle politics that are endemic in the United States.

    The crux of the article is that angry white men are responsible for the vast majority of mass shootings in the United States even though we focus the vast majority of our attention on Muslim "terrorists."

    What's sad is that the first thing I thought of this morning (after I was able to connect with my best friend who is in Vegas for a work trip) is "whew, I'm glad it wasn't a Muslim who did it."

    Why is that the first thing that comes to my mind? I would have to say it's because I know full well the harsh reaction Donald would have had if a brown person did this heinous terrorist act. But since it's a white person he, Fox "News," and every Republican in the country can label this just another unfortunate event that can't be prevented.

    This double standard is perpetuated by the so called "liberal media" who is ever so happy to push two different narratives whenever there is a mass shooting in our country. If a white person does it they bend over backwards to talk about anything other than the word terrorism, but if a brown person does it then it's a terrorist plot to overthrow our democracy.

    It's really sad when you think about it. Dog whistle politics have been around for a long time, but it seems to be on steroids in this day and age.

    If 3 out of the last 4 were done by any other group there would probably be internment camps being built. The selective denial of a problem is obscene.

    Big difference between what is available and what is not to the general public, semi auto weapons are easy to acquire, newly manufactured auto fire weapons are banned or prohibited, but a person can own one an auto fire weapon, see below.

    smartgunlaws.org/gun-laws/policy-areas/...

    Despite the Federal Ban, Machine Guns are Still in Circulation

    "Although federal law prohibits the possession of newly manufactured machine guns, it allows the transfer of machine guns lawfully owned prior to May 19, 1986, if the transfer is approved by Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives (ATF). As a result, a substantial number of machine guns are still in circulation. As of November 2006, the national registry of machine guns contained registrations for 391,532 machine guns.4 In 2006, ATF seized 1,280 unregistered machine guns.5 "

    According to msm, this person had acquired guns legally. If this is the case, he must have acquired the machine gun before 1986, or, he altered a semi auto rifle making it an auto fire rifle by purchasing the part/s to do so via mail order or internet. Authorities have not stated the type of weapon/s used in his assault.

    " If this is the case, he must have acquired the machine gun before 1986" Anybody can guy a machine gun just a gun manufactured on or after May19th, 1986 can't be owned by a civilian by law it is the The Firearm Owners' Protection Act. I did a lot of work for treasure hunter boats and they were all interested in getting and taking weapons with them especially machine guns. Anybody can own a full automatic weapon as long as they pass the application which is hardly any different than buying a pistol and buy the Federal Transfer Stamp. What no civilian can own is a full automatic weapon manufactured on or after May 19th 1986. Machine guns manufactured on or after that date are classified as non transferable and they cannot be transferred to private citizens. That is the The Firearm Owners' Protection Act.

    Procedure for Acquiring Machine Guns

    An unlicensed individual may acquire machine guns, with ATF approval, from its lawful owner residing in the same state as the individual (27 CFR ยงยง 479.84 & 479.105). The transferor must file an ATF application, which must be completed by both parties to the transfer

    and executed under penalties of perjury, and pay a $200 transfer tax to ATF.

    Well it should be a federal law that every person over age 14 should carry a gun at all times. If the audience at the concert had automatic weapons, they all could have fired back and taken out the entire hotel and everyone in it. Its their fault they didn't protect themselves and just stood their begging to be shot by a legal gun owner exercising his constitutional rights. A sane person is always Locked and Loaded. {Angry Sarcasism based on the NRA's response to Sandyhook}

    {Saracasm off}

    We won't get any type of gun reform until we have vastly larger domestic attacks. ATM, the number of deaths per year are perceived to be acceptable for a nation that loves its weapons. The death toll from the illegal use of weapons, including domestic terrorism is just part of the cost of owning weapons, and as a nation we accept those costs.

    Hell, terrorists outside of the US don't need to do any more attacks, they just need to sit back and let the domestic wackos and the mentally deranged do the work.

    According to statistic reports by msm, 36,000 Americans died of gunshot wounds last year, it's not enough, it's not enough to force legislation of tougher gun laws and restrictions, evidently, more people need to die from guns. a lot more.
