So we're selecting between brands of horrible ? Selecting greedy dishonest thievery over a religious nut. How did we get here ? 40% of this country was shocked that a man of color was hired in '08 - terrible - mind blowing. Then in '12 it happened again ! OY VEY. Plus Dems getting the top job twice. Thievery while white is perfectly acceptable in too many minds.

Poll numbers continue downwards. Buyers remorse....

If you watched Mr. Softball Chuck Todd on Meet The Press yesterday, he laid out the timeline of the Trump campaign which was done so very good, he alluded to the fact that the Trump campaign, as well as Trump knew all along that there was intent of Russian influence. Yeah, he (Todd) even posted poll numbers showing how badly this usurper is doing among voters. Trump thinks (he does?) that 40% approval is not too bad. He is a legend in his own mind.

Not clear about the "Softball" reference. Are you using the label to suggest Chuck Todd asks light weight questions that are designed promote the guest's agenda.

Democrats are powerless to call Trump on the carpet for anything, except to go on MSNBC and complain.

What should also be considered is that Trump is likely to F'up with a major\serious presidential decision that the America public overwhelmingly wants him out. Think of it as something the collapses under its own weight, not because some outside forces caused it break.

...Anyway, that is the way I see it playing out.

Vox, July 17, 2017: Mitch McConnell is breaking the Senate

This Vox article is about Mitch McConnell and his own obsession with power and why he always chooses party over country.

“The cardinal rule of McConnell is he will do anything to acquire more power, or to achieve an outcome he thinks achieves his political interest,” says Adam Jentleson, a former aide to ex-Democratic leader Harry Reid.

“I don’t think he’s a conservative; I think he’s a transactionalist. I think he wants to keep the title of majority leader,” says Jason Pye of the conservative activist group Freedomworks. “His vested interest is taking power.”

Mitch McConnell use of the filibuster rule to block Obama's agenda in his first term was the unprecedented in Senate history. He blocked not only controversial deals but also uncontroversial ones. "The filibuster became an omnipresent threat through which McConnell could extract concessions, delay action, or waste precious Senate floor time. “He ramped up the tactics of mass obstruction in a way we had never seen before,” says Ornstein."

McConnell was able to do this with impunity because he knows quite well that the American public is very ignorant and uncaring of what goes on in Washington. His strategy for gaining power was quite simple and effective. Block everything Obama wanted to do...and I mean everything. And then blame Obama for not getting the job done. That strategy worked beautifully. Even liberals turned against Obama. I know because I interviewed many of them when I canvassed for Obama. It shocked me how little Americans knew about their government.

However, now his latest tactic to push through Trumpcare without debate is not working. Don't underestimate him though. A guy consumed by power is capable of anything to avoid any defeat. He is ruthless.

But America is waking up (as the title of this thread asks). Americans cannot rest in their efforts to protest loudly to ensure that Trumpcare never replaces Obamacare. Never!

Yes, absolutely, to suggest Todd doesn't get tough enough, see the thread "democrats need to get nasty" because when a moderator of a dog and pony show like meet the press airs, their guests always seem to manage to not answer direct questions posed to the guest, and always manage to change the subject when answering Todd's questions. Todd allows his guests to answer in a rambling fashion, when he should be interrupting them and asking them to answer the question's he poses. How about NBC reassigns Todd to Arizona flood disasters and appoints Chris Matthews to host meet the press? That for me would be a welcome relief from playing softball with republican politicians and their lawyers. After all, NBC and MSNBC is considered by many to be liberal or democrat leaning media.

Agree completely. Bird's theorem is only partially tongue in cheek. The American people are willing dupes to just about any bright, shiny object. They pay attention to little. This leaves the door wide open to oligarchs, potential autocrats and assorted other political hacks. The media is also a primary assistant in the complete and utter dumbing down of politics in this country. The only thing I can say is that I will be dead before it occurs but I don't see this country lasting another 50-100 years. It has become so prone to charlatans as to be astounding. And btw, freedomworks is part and parcel of the problem.
