Not Republicans minds, just one. Hopefully soon we can get dozens of unsolicited opinions from professionals on the presidents mental stability or lack thereof. May be fun and insightful.

It does not help if more than 40% still love the guy and the idiots around him. No wonder all these people who voted for him need lots of real education and mental screening because they are all nuts. But yeah their "wish" came through as well Putin's. So we are stuck with it; up to the next disaster; thanks to brainless people.

At yesterday's Cubs Brewers game in Milwaukee, NJ governor Christie gets booed and then gets into a Cubs fans face. If he would have done that to me, I would have slapped his fat face and said get the f*ck away you pig, as I grabbed his big serving of nachos and cheese dip.

About Republican "minds". The idiots came with an "new" immigration proposal. An total laugh. They want to cut half of the "qualified" people and demand they have "skills" and know English. Wow. Start with Melania her English is horrible. Let alone Sessions who can't speak English either, only Alabama "swamp" mumble. Trump himself does not know or speak any other language; while other world leaders do. About "skills"; people here in the "swamp belt, bible belt, coal belt, rust belt" don't want skills; they just want their beer, free lunch and food from McDonalds or the "meals on wheels". Neither do they want to pluck fruit, or work on the land, or mow lawns. Mexicans do that here. So what is in the minds of Republicans, I don't know, but looking at Trump it is not beyond 3rd graders. So it is time as they do in Canada to teach an mandatory second language such as Spanish in school as well "skills" in thinking.

There's so many threads this post could go into, but I'll put it in here, to see what you folks here think about it.

Republican Minds: how about their fuzzy math?

Okay, Foxconn want's to build a factory in SE Wisconsin, the state majority in house and senate is republican, we have a republican governor and a republican majority in Wisconsin's congress.

From CNN: "Foxconn's pledge to invest $10 billion to build a factory in Wisconsin that will create between 3,000 and 13,000 new jobs has been met with plenty of excitement."

"Wisconsin will also have to wait about 25 years to break even on tax incentives to the Foxconn project, according to a new report by the state's Legislative Fiscal Bureau, a nonpartisan agency that provides financial analysis to the legislature."

    money.cnn.com/2017/08/08/news/foxconn-w...

Are republicans insane or what? 25 years to break even on tax incentives? They're giving away the farm, with the livestock and the crops folks. Not to mention the environmental impact on the area, it was disclosed that Foxconn would be exempt from any and all environmental laws, in other words, they can spoil the land and waterways around the facility without ever being taken to task for ruining natural resources.

Since the topic is Republican Minds I'll add to what Dutch said on being multilingual. According to a study by researchers at the University of Ghent in Belgium, 45 native Dutch-speaking students who also learned to speak English at a age 14 or 15, were studied to see how their brains process words and information.

Scientific American, January 1, 2010: The Neural Advantage of Speaking 2 Languages

    The findings:

"The ability to speak a second language isn’t the only thing that distinguishes bilingual people from their monolingual counterparts—their brains work differently, too. Research has shown, for instance, that children who know two languages more easily solve problems that involve misleading cues. A new study published in Psychological Science reveals that knowledge of a second language—even one learned in adolescence—affects how people read in their native tongue. The findings suggest that after learning a second language, people never look at words the same way again."

Now I would guess that if we were to separate a random group of Republicans and Democrats, one would find more bilingual people amongst the Democrats. That's probably a no-brainer considering the respective attitudes on immigration. But it would also explain why the Republican brains are wired differently.

Just a thought that I throw out as I read the various posts in this thread. You can read into it what you like. I make no claims.

The difference between multi and mono lingual minds is dramatic. The difference is mono lingual people memorize the second language. Multi lingual people assimilate the second language.

Liberals do think differently than conservatives, and I think its literally in a person's DNA. Its not something we learn from our parents or even our culture, its just how we are hardwired the day we are born. Family\culture\etc may re-enforce natural tendencies, or go against them.

I personally a bit ambidextrous, so-to-speak. I am very socially progressive, but just as much fiscally conservative.

In political forums when I read broad sweeping comments like "Members of the XXX party are worthless morons" My mind translates the author's words into "The members of the XXX party are worthless niggers". They are, in effect, demonstrating the same limited mentality of racists that hate a specific group of people based on extreme stereo types.

It is true that Liberals and Conservatives have many polar opposites beliefs, and if those beliefs are taken to extreme, those beliefs are counter productive, which then are used as stereotypes to suggest that all XXX are like extreme, worst case.

Through out my life I have known just as many militant liberals wanting to save environment and I have militant Conservatives that believe war\violence is how to solve all political problems. I see them as being the same, just having different perspective on what is important.

If we could take party identification out of the voting process and everyone just ran for office on a slate of important issues, then the tribalism factor could be removed.

And if we could also remove ignorance from the voting process so people do not succumb to the big and little lies that politicians tell, then we would have a more informed electorate.

And if we could remove emotions from the process, then people would have to think critically about how each and every issue affects their economic welfare and the country's welfare, then we would have a true democracy.

But I agree that DNA as well as one's life's experiences are a determining factor...conservative or liberal and the middle ground in-between. Hibbing et al made that same point in their book, Predisposed: Liberals, Conservatives, and the Biology of Political Differences.

So yes, even removing those factors (tribalism, ignorance, and emotions) as the determining factors in the way people vote, we would still be left with a liberal - conservative divide in the electorate. Our brains are wired differently. The diversity of the worldviews that arise out of our genes and life's experiences should be strength if only we could be more tolerant of the worldviews of the "other". But today we are not and one unscrupulous Donald Trump tapped into our emotions to accentuate and even demonize our differences for his own personal gain.

Many of the social/cultural issues today like abortion, LGBT rights, religious freedoms, racial/ethnic rights and gun rights remain the determining factor in the way some people vote. I would like to think that the bigger issues of the day pertaining to the person's economic well being including health care would carry more weight. I know from experience in knocking on doors that some Republicans voted for Obama only because they had a preexisting condition. That is the kind of critical thinking we need more of on all issues and not just health care.

Tolerance of other worldviews is something that we are sorely lacking. It is the real threat to our democracy as we seemingly cannot see compromise as a part of our political discourse.

Schmidt; it is quite simple; as I said many times an two party system causes all of this. In the Netherlands there are 11 parties you can vote on. So then you vote for what party represents your feelings. Also it prevents polarization, as well an much higher voter turnout. Over there at least 80%. Thus in the end the "mix" in the government gives you more the feeling of that your party has an voice. However as with any government, the setbacks are that also an majority party has more to say and more influence. It is at least better than here, because the "middle/independents" have an voice. Also the "votes" count; not something stupid as an "electoral college" is used.

People on both sides are elitists. Absolutely sure that they have life, politics, the economy, and world affairs figured out.

Many should adopt the mindset that if lucky, they may be close on 60% of topics and they should close their mouths and open their ears to learn more on all topics. It's sad that sports are spilling into life in so much as winning or losing are everything. We should all strive to learn and know more but open mindedness is seen as ugly.
