Fact Checking Trump's Tweets during Comey's testifying before congress

Clearly Trump is targeting his base with his tweets and are intended to mislead them. The undercurrent is that Trump refuses to take responsibility for his actions. Notice in the fact checking how Trump twists reality\facts so that the door remains open to endless implausible conspiracies. Sure, who knows, maybe Obama has been working with the Russians for 10+ years to overthrow the free world using mass hypnosis by controlling microwave ovens. :)

A realization of Trump's immunity would be a start in ending his attack on human rights.

wwjd -- The Tweets are just another example of how Trump cherry picks and then twists the message to imply the opposite of what Comey was saying. This is what he does again and again. And when the Tweets are disproven then he and his surrogates push back saying the media is taking a "literal interpretation" of his tweets when he had a much broader intent that the media somehow missed. Trump is devious and manipulative, and right now his only intent is to keep his base together including some 20 million Twitter followers. He doesn't care what the "dishonest" media puts out...only that his base remains supportive.

Someone should tell him the story about the boy who cried wolf. He would learn that eventually the people will tire of it and he will be alone. That is going to happen. He is already alone because the republicans are not defending him anymore. They know he is the Titanic and they know he is going down in flames. They will work to save their own asses . The people will become fewer and fewer more isolated and foolish looking. It won't be sad to see them shrivel up and die . It will be satisfying.

Schmidt/Maindawg, sure I follow your feelings. Maybe I'm negative, but his hard core keeps getting stimulated by his "road trips" to the "stupid" States, like Kentucky having an"rally" there. That boosts his "ego" again, like refilling the gas tank.

In other words as long as his "core" gets what they think they get, things will "roll" on and on. The problem is "stupidity" is easily manipulated, either by the "church" or "politicians"; they are the "herd" and follow the leader even if they all drown. Furthermore as you both said: Where is the "spine" of "real" Republicans?

A positive perspective on those numbers is that its likely that out of those 20 million, about half subscribe because they are anti-trump, they are motivated to get that SOB out of office asap. If they read a Trump tweet "The sky is blue" they look outside to verify. I personally don't trust a single word he says, and I think that is true for many others who get his tweets. I assume he is lying until its proven otherwise. His base trusts him too much, and they are going to get burned, let's just hope it is minor rather than find out one of Trump's businesses owns their home mortgage and is forcing foreclosure because the land is worth more than their home.

I think his hardcore base is no bigger than the base that listen to rush limbaugh or other far right talk radio. Those numbers are not large enough to effect long-term change UNLESS the majority stand back and are not actively involved. Ponder for a moment, if the same 10 people show up at every town meeting(small town of 10 thousand residents), and they are far right wackos, the wackos will get their way because they show up. When the other 10k residents say "WTF, how come we now have to...." they can't blame the wackos for showing up and getting what they wanted while the majority stayed home.

Michael Scherer, Time Magazine, March 23, 2017: Can President Trump Handle the Truth?

Time Magazine is featuring Trump's many, many lies and how he is able to twist facts and control the messaging in this week's issue. Thankfully though they did not put Trump on the cover so he could brag about how many times he was on the cover.

I applaud Time for covering him in this manner. You can read all about him and his lies in the article, but frankly we have covered much of it in various threads on this website.

He's unlikely to get on the cover again, unless it is cartoon caricature with a caption: "The man who's pretending he is president"

Trump likely expected all congressmen to do exactly what Ted Cruz did, flip from hating him, to willing to blow him as many times needed to keep Trump happy. Or be like Nunes, the eager boy, who idolizes Trump: "look, look what I found, some papers that have the word 'monitoring'. Pat my head and give me gold star"
