Dick Cheney in 2007 continued to make the false allegation that Saddam Hussein was linked to 9/11: "...the fact of the matter is, in terms of threats to the United States from al Qaeda, for example, attacks on the United States -- they didn't need an excuse. We weren't in Iraq when they hit us on 9/11".
